Rosary Novena

Since 2010, we have made it a Mustard Seed Community tradition to join forces in praying the 54-day Rosary Novena, primarily for the conversion of our loved ones, however it can be for any intention that is important to you.  In 2016, starting August 15 (the Feast of the Assumption), we will be storming the gates of heaven with prayer, enlisting the help of God’s own Mother in praying this powerful devotion. You may wish to add some form of fasting, offer up our intentions at Mass, send intentions to your favorite prayer chains, or call upon any Saints you have a special devotion to (Sts. Jude and Rita come to mind…the Saints of impossible causes!!)  Our novena will end 54 days later which is October 7 – the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

If you wish to join us, you are invited to reply to CharismaticNKY@gmail.com, and prior to August 15, we’ll share the names of all the participants with the others who have responded so that we can pray for each other.

This is a recent devotion that derives from the 1884 Marian vision known as Our Lady of Pompeii in which the Blessed Mother appeared to a young girl, Fortuna Agrelli, and said “Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary, and three novenas in thanksgiving.”

This novena is often prayed for important intentions and desperate situations. Its fruits are powerful.  “A laborious Novena, but a Novena of Love.  You who are sincere will not find it too difficult, if you really wish to obtain your request.  Should you not obtain the favor you seek, be assured that the Rosary Queen, who knows what each one stands most in need of, has heard your prayer.  You will not have prayed in vain.  No prayer ever went unheard.  And Our Blessed Lady has never been known to fail.”

Pray with complete love, trust, perseverance, and thanksgiving! Are you ready to pray together and see God’s graces pouring into your life?  Have a wonderfully blessed 54 days!

Instructions on how to properly pray this devotion

One novena is 9 days. Say 5 decades of the rosary each day for 9 days. Do this 3 times. That’s 27 days altogether. These 27 days are the prayers of petition. Then do the same thing for another 27 days (which is 3 more novenas) in thanksgiving…whether or not the request has been granted. 27 days of petition and 27 days of thanksgiving equals the 54 day rosary novena, which is equivalent to 6 nine-day novenas!! Ignore the normal schedule of mysteries and start with the Joyful Mysteries, then proceed through Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.  Or you can start over with the Joyful Mysteries at the start of each of the 6 novenas. Say the Rosary the way you normally say the Rosary, with any additional prayers or meditations you like.

Example of additional prayers to be said at the start and finish of each daily rosary:

Petition Prayer (27 Days):
Start with: “Dear Lord, I offer this rosary to You as part of my 54 day Rosary Novena for ___ , uniting my petitions with those of everyone praying this Novena.”
End with: “Blessed Mother, hear my plea and bring it before the throne of your Son, my Lord, Jesus Christ.  Please look with favor on this devotion, and grant me [say your intention here.]  I ask these things of you, my Mother, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.”

Thanksgiving Prayer (27 Days):
Start with: “Dear Lord, I offer this rosary to You as part of my 54 day Rosary Novena in thanksgiving for ___, uniting my prayers with those of everyone joining this Novena.”
End with: “Blessed Mother, thank you for hearing my prayer and interceding on my behalf.  Mary, Mother of my Soul, be with me all my days, and accept my humble thanks for your many gifts, which I accept in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.”
